To set out minimum class sizes for each mode of delivery.
This policy applies to the Dean of Faculty and those College staff involved in deciding the mode of delivery for a particular study unit.
Where accreditation requirements include a minimum face-to-face time the requirements of this policy may be waived.
Where occasional or sessional lecturers are employed to teach College units the following numbers are the enrolment minimums at which a shift in the mode of delivery must occur. If enrolments are less than these minimums the lecturer must utilise a mode of delivery that employs less face to face hours of contact to ensure the college does not waste resources by offering the unit in a mode appropriate to a higher volume of enrolments.
More face to face contact
| No face to face contact hours |
Mode of Delivery | Minimum Class Sizes |
Weekly Semester Unit | 9 | |
Three 'Saturday Plus' mode | 8 | |
Biweekly Mixed Mode | 6 | |
Online mode, directed study or semi-regular seminar program | <6 |
These threshold figures also serve as guidelines for the Dean of Faculty and the Unit Co-ordinators in the deliberation with permanent faculty of the College in the process of planning the mode of delivery of any particular unit.
