The College recognises that there are occasions when special circumstances disrupt a student’s study program. Such disruptions may range from inability to attend lectures or tutorials, delays in completing assessment work to withdrawal from units of study and/or discontinuance in the course.

Special circumstances recognised by the College include:-

• a medical condition which has been identified or has changed, thereby preventing the student from continuing with his/her study
• a change to family or personal circumstances beyond the control of the student. Such events may include:-
  • the death of a family member;
  • severe medical problems experienced by the student or a member of his/her family;
  • a change to the student’s financial circumstances owing to loss of employment or the collapse of a family business;
  • a change demanded by an employer, e.g. a transfer to another location or a major change to an employment contract; or
  • the breakdown of a marriage relationship.

In the event that the Dean of Academic Administration is satisfied that a special circumstance would have made it unreasonable to expect a student to continue with his/her studies at the time of the event which created the special circumstance, permission may be given for the student to finalise the units in which he/she was enrolled in earlier semesters but failed to complete.

The Dean or Registrar shall formalise the arrangement with a special arrangement and specify a time frame for completion. Generally, no further tuition fee payment will be required from the student who is completing units under these conditions.
