Background:

Eastern College Australia (ECA) employs a variety of strategies to create an organisational climate which will attract and retain staff of the highest calibre and optimise their opportunity to contribute to the achievement of the College's mission and goals.

ECA is committed to providing staff with a wide range of benefits that enable them to be at their best and fulfil their ambitions, both at work and in their personal lives. Supporting this, ECA’s Staff Study Discount provides contracted staff, board members, their spouses and children with a discount for full fee subjects leading to an award at ECA.

Purpose:

This policy outlines the conditions and principles that apply to Staff Study Discount for College staff, board members and their immediate families (spouses and children).

Scope:

This policy applies to all staff and board members and their immediate families (spouses and children).

Statement:
Eligibility

The Staff Study Discount arrangements are available to staff who are employed at Eastern College Australia on a fixed-term or ongoing contract in excess of six months and are enrolled in a full fee-paying course and board members. The Staff Study Discount arrangement is also available to their immediate families (spouses and children).

 The discount does not apply to:

  • adjunct or casual staff (you must be employed on a fixed-term or ongoing basis);
  • existing students who are subsequently employed as staff on short-term contracts (your primary affiliation with ECA must be as a staff member or board member, not as a student);
  • Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), research, and non-award courses;
  • Payment of the Student Services and Amenities Fee;
  • Payment of incidentals associated with undertaking the full-fee course such as travel or books; and
  • ECA staff or board member completing a course through another institution who subsequently enrol in a unit that will contribute to the course being completed at the other institution.

The discount cannot be held in conjunction with any other scholarship or tuition fee reduction. Employees awarded the discount will cease to receive the discount if at any time they no longer meet the eligibility criteria, and/or at the termination of their employment with ECA.

Students are responsible for notifying Human Resources immediately of an intention to cease employment with the College. The Human Resource area will advise the Academic Registrar that they no longer meet the eligibility requirements.

Equally, if the ECA contract is terminated, or a board member resigns/retires, the Staff Study Discount will cease immediately. If the student continues with the study, they will be responsible for the full 100% tuition fee.

Please note that retrospective applications for the discount will not be approved.

Entitlement upon Approval

  • College staff, board members and their immediate families (spouses and children) who wish to study at ECA or MST will be eligible for a 25% reduction in advertised fees for ECA courses and MST Courses (ECA’s collaborative partner).
  • For new employees, this arrangement will not be available in their first six months of employment. For board members, it is available immediately upon joining the board.
