Unit Scheduling Policy

Purpose: 

To set out the considerations that determine scheduling of units for quality learning, especially those with low enrolments.

Scope: 

This policy applies to the General Manager and those College staff involved in scheduling timetables.
 

Statement: 

The College shall establish a delivery cycle that is designed to ensure that students can complete their course within the advertised expected course duration.  The primary consideration in scheduling timetables is the student learning experience and progression through their course taking viability into consideration.

Before the commencement of teaching in any semester, when enrolment numbers are below six (6) students in a unit, consideration shall be given to:

  • Student related factors:

    • Student progress through the course
    • Overall attainment of course learning outcomes
    • Transition strategies
    • Student learning experience
    • Ensuring students have access to the learning resources requierd and that student engagement is maintained
  • Staffing & Academic Workload Factors
    • Availability of suitable/preferred academic(s) for the unit and mode of delivery
    • Suitability of alternate modes of delivery
  • Economic Factors
    • ​If the unit has a demonstratable broader strategic value, or if the unit/qualification is in a development phase
    • Viability of a unit with low enrolments

The General Manager in consultation with the Course Co-ordinator, shall consider these factors and determine that low enrolment units will either proceed, be cancelled, be rescheduled or that alternative arrangements shall be made.
